The construction that you see is the site preparation for the construction of a new street and detention basin that will be utilized by the new City Recreation Center. This work is being done now so that when it comes time to begin construction on the Center itself, the street and drainage system will already be done and available for use. Thank you for your interest.

There has been delays due to costs and designs. Is there a new project schedule for the rec center?

Thanks for your note regarding the project schedule for the Recreation and Aquatic Center referenced above.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Center was actually held yesterday, Thursday, October 13, 2005.
I anticipate that full construction on the project will be proceeding within the next several weeks as final details for the construction and the site take place.
We currently expect that the construction will be completed in late December 2006 or early January 2007. All in all, this represents a delay of about 6 months of our original estimation of completion. While any delay in projects such as this are not desired, I do believe that much thought has gone into making our center a better one during that time.
Construction will include the completion of the 100,000 indoor recreation center that includes approximately 18,000 square feet of indoor aquatic space. The outdoor Aquatic Center will be between 20,000 - 25,000 square feet in size and will open in the spring of 2007, when weather is more conducive for outdoor activities.
Once completed, I believe that this facility will be the largest and most dynamic facility in the State of Texas and will offer great recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.
Over the next several weeks and months, we will be adding new and additional information about the Center and be moving forward towards examining a fee structure that will not only be competitive in the market place, but will help to accomplish generating revenues sufficient to offset operation and maintenance of the facility.
We look forward to the completion of this family recreation and aquatic center and hope that if you and others have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or our staff at 972-335-5517.
