The current Animal Control Ordinance #01-12-91 requires pet animals within the City that are 4 months of age or older to be annually registered and vaccinated against the rabies virus.
The registration fee for non-sterilized pets is $10 for each pet. The registration fee for sterilized pets is $5 for each pet.
The registration may be obtained from a local veterinarian at the time of the annual rabies vaccination and mailed to the City's authorized animal shelter agent (SPCA-McKinney) or a pet's owner may take the valid rabies certificate issued to their pet who received the vaccination to the City's animal shelter agent to process the registration.
The Animal Control Ordinance was recently visited to reflect pet owner registration changes. The updated Animal Control Ordinance will provide new registration requirements for pet animals. The updated ordinance will provide pet animals that are currently vaccinated with a valid rabies certificate and a tag issued to the pet animal to serve as the animal's registration. The tag must be worn by the pet animal at all times.
The new ordinance will go to the City Council Tuesday, April 19 for their consideration.
