What is the city's noise ordinance regarding when outside work can begin in a neighborhood? The past two mornings, lawn services have been working in my neighborhood before 8am and I believe this is too early. This morning they are right next door and started jut after 7am. How could I get the ordinance amended to require that lawn services start at a more reasonable time?

The City's Noise Ordinance indicates that the use of power equipment, which includes lawn mowers and blowers, shall be classified as a "noise disturbance per se if conducted between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7 a.m." This same restriction applies to construction and maintenance work.

The Noise Ordinance can only be amended by the City Council. You can request that it be amended and propose time restrictions. The Council will then decide if the ordinance should be amended and direct staff to prepare an ordinance if that is their decision.

If you should have any additional questions please feel free to contact me at 972.335.5540, ext. 142.
