I am in the process of having to select a new insurance company (self employeed, self insured). Some of them have different coverages for being transported to the hospital by Paramedics. Is there an average cost for transport by the Frisco Fire/EMS medics to any of the local hospitals in Plano or McKinney?

My second question is - does Frisco have a subscription EMS program? When I lived in Oregon, we paid about $45 a year to the Fire Department to belong to a program called "FireMed". If we ever had to use the EMS service - what ever was not covered by our insurance company - was covered by the subscription service.

Thanks for your time. Hopefully - I will never have to use the EMS system - but just want to be prepared.

The base fee for ambulance transport in the City of Frisco is $275.00 plus mileage and treatment fees that vary depedning on the seriousness of illness or injury. The average bill for EMS transport to a local hospital ranges from $350 to $500. Fire Department Staff currenly process claims through insurance carriers when appropriate.

EMS subscription services have typically been used as a revenue generating venture in areas having difficulty funding Emergency Medical Service. In Frisco, the user fees and tax dollars that support this service have, thus far, proven successful.

Thank you for your interest in the Frisco Fire Department and feel free to contact me through the Message Board or at 972-335-5525 with any further questions you might have.
