Hi,

I was wondering if Frisco is planning on creating a Dog Park like can be found in Dallas?

Has this idea been brought up before?

For infomration on the Dallas Dog Park, you can go to www.dallasdogparks.org

Dear Nissa,

Thank you for your note regarding the possibility of creating a dog park such as the one that is located in Dallas.

Our staff and the Parks and Recreation Board have discussed this issue on several occasions over the past 12 months. I believe that such a park would be feasible to our system given that a proper amount of parkland can be found and that funding for such a development is available.

Thank you for your information on the Dallas Dog Park. We will take a look at it and brief the Parks and Recreation Board during their June 13, 2002 meeting. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me at (972) 335-5517.

Sincerely,

Rick Wieland

Another great place for dog owners to visit is in Allen, TX at the Connemara Conservancy. A 72 acre nature preserve where owners hike and dogs run free. Does Frisco Parks & Rec have anything like a natural woodland/meadow area in the plans?

Dear Mr. Duerksen,

Thanks for your message regarding whether or not Frisco has any natural woodland/meadow area in our future plans.

Many of our community parks have areas that are contained within them that are primarily passive in nature. Most of our community parks are 100 acres or larger in size. The passive areas will vary from park to park depending on topography, etc.

We continue to look at potential options for a large area that would serve the purpose in which you write.

McKinney Road Park is a current park site that does have a substantial passive area inside its perimeter. Design on this 63 acre park is currently underway with construction expected to begin in the fall. McKinney Road Park is located along and north of McKinney Road, between North County Road and Sunset Drive.

Development would include: the development of a trail system throughout the park, the construction of a large picnic pavilion, the construction of a permanent restroom facility, parking, development of an outdoor amphitheater, development of a 4 acre pond fronting the amphitheater, picnic facilities, etc.

I would add that this park has an abundance of trees and open space area found within it, especially in the central and northern section of the park.

Should you have any additional questions regarding this site or others, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Rick Wieland

Once the design has been completed for this park, will they be posted on the web site to view? Thanks.

Dear Anonymous,

Thanks for your message regarding the posting of a park master plan on our web site once completed.

We are in the process of working to add features such as individual park master plans to the Parks and Recreation web pages. Once we have our sites in the proper format, we will begin to add these to that site.

Should you have any additional questions regarding this, please let me or Dudley Raymond on our staff know.

Thanks for your input.

Did anything come of the briefing in June?

Plano announced the opening of a dog park effective today:

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for your message regarding the latest information on a dog park in Frisco.

At the last meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board, there was some brief discussion of this issue, but this will be addressed further during the August 8, 2002 meeting of the Board.

Our staff will be conducting a tour of the Plano facility between now and that meeting of the Board.

I would encourage you to attend the August 8, 2002 meeting of the Board to show your support for this development. Should you have any questions or additional comments regarding this, please let me know.

Sincerely,

I have seen and heard of plans for a hike and bike trail in Frisco. What is the status on the development of that? Where could we see a map of where the location of the trail will be within the city?

Dear Mr. Guthrie,

I asked Dudley Raymond to help address your question regarding the city's Hike and Bike Trail Master Plan. Below is his response.

Please feel free to contact either Dudley or myself regarding any future questions in this matter.

Sincerely,

Mr. Guthrie

The City has adopted a Hike and Master Plan with maps that show the future Hike and Bike Trails. You can review this document at the Parks and Recreation office or the Library. You may also purchase this document at the office for $15.

The City has several projects that we are currently working on to add to the trails that we have in place. We are trying to receive grant money for two trail projects and have not heard back if the City will be successful in receiving these funds. The timing of these projects is dependent on having funds available.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me at (972) 335-5540 Ext 159.

Dear Mr. Raymond,

This is an issue I have thought about as well. I appreciate your answer to this but I am somewhat concerned. The Frisco website is such an incredible reference of information for new and existing members of the community. Why not put trail locations, information, and maps on the website. I understand charging 15.00 if it is a nice laminated map but if I just want a quick reference to the location of the trails I should be able to come here and find this.

Would like to hear if this might happen in the future.

Thanks!!

Dear Chris,

Thanks for your message regarding the placement of the hike and bike trail master plan on the City's website. This is something that the Parks and Recreation Department has identified as a great resource to the community. We are currently trying to pull together this information along with other maps and master plans. Some or these documents were produced prior to the creation of our web page and we are working to get them into a digital format.

It is our goal that in the future all the parks master plans and trail or parks and recreation facility master plans will be on the web. This is being developed as time permits.

Please feel free to call me if you have any additional questions.

Thanks

Did anything every become of the August 8 meeting on the dog park. My husband and I love Plano's dog parks but would really appreciate one closer to home. What can we do to support this?

Dear Mindi,

Thank you for your inquiry about a dog park being developed in Frisco.

In answer to your question, the Parks and Recreation Board did discuss the development of a dog park facility during their September meeting, but did not commit funds for this development for the FY'03 capital projects budget.

It was felt that there were other deserving park development projects to consider at this time. The Board was supportive to look at this project in the future as funding was available.

The Board typically examines annual projects between June and August of each year. I would encourage you to stay in contact with me or you are welcome to attend any of the Parks and Recreation Board meetings that take place each month. The Board typically meets on the second Thursday of each month, beginning at 6:30 pm at the City Council Chambers, located at the Frisco Municipal Complex on McKinney Road.

Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to do so.

Sincerely,

Rick Wieland
