I live near the new high school and heard gunshots fired all weekend. I assume these were hunters but do they have to start shooting so early in the morning?

Opening day of dove season has always found hunters out at daybreak and dusk as that is when the birds are most active. As the birds move out of the area, the hunting activity will decline. Based on my observation, you shouldn't have as much trouble this weekend. As the city annexes more and more land, this will become less of a problem.
