Does the city have an Emergency Communications Plan that includes local HAM (Amature) radio operators? I and both of my sons are in the process of getting our FCC Amature radio license. My sons are doing it for Boy Scouts but the three of us are also intrested in assting the city if there is an emergency that takes out or overwhesm the local communication sytems.

We just moved to Frisco and noticed that there is not a Local ARRL club here. So I can't contact them about EC support.

Mr. Sapp,

Currently the City of Frisco Fire Department works in cooperation with the Collin County ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) group. This group, along with counterparts in adjacent counties such as Denton, Dallas and Tarrant, coordinate severe weather spotters and communication during times of severe weather. They are also our point of contact during other emergencies that would require amateur radio services. These folks also communicate directly with representatives at the National Weather Service office in Ft. Worth during severe weather and we have enjoyed a great relationship with them. You can view their website at http://www.collinares.net

For more information about Collin County ARES, you can email Bruce Dingman at n5byl@comcast.net

If you have any further questions concerning Emergency Communications or our relationship with amateur radio operators, please do not hesitate to contact me.
