We are looking to replace our gas cooktop. The current cooktop has a downdraft, but we are wondering if we have to have a downdraft or hood of any sort. The cooktop is under a window in the kitchen. The house was built in 2005.

The Residential Code does not require hoods for either gas or electric domestic ranges. If the residence was built under the requirements of the Green Building Ordinance, it should have an exhaust system vented to the exterior.
