Quick question on Frisco's plans to finish widening Westridge Blvd between Memory Lane and Custer Rd. From my understanding, the land to the south of Westridge Blvd east of Memory Lane is actually Frisco, however the City of McKinney has completed the remainder of the road. Also, any plans for a traffic light at the intersection of Custer and Westridge. This is a nightmare in the mornings and evenings as traffic is solid on Custer, and there are no turn lanes on east-bound Westridge to help alleviate this.

Brad,

The land south of Westridge Blvd and east of Memory Lane is not yet in Frisco's city limits, but is in its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ), which means it will be annexed into our city limits in the future. The City of McKinney was able to build both halves of Westridge west of Memory Lane because development occurred on both sides of the roadway. The widening of the Frisco section of Westridge will similarly be driven by development along the south side of Westridge. (And no development is currently pending along the roadway.)

The intersection of Custer and Westridge is a likely candidate for a traffic signal in the future. Custer is a TxDOT roadway and therefore TxDOT must approve any traffic signals, which requires satisfying certain traffic signal warrants (based on traffic volumes and conflicting movements). The City of Frisco and the City of McKinney have an agreement regarding traffic signals along Custer Road where McKinney will be responsible for traffic signals at Westridge and northward. Therefore, McKinney will be the city to work with TxDOT to seek a traffic signal at Westridge.

In the short term, TxDOT is in the process of widening Custer Road to a six lane roadway. When complete, traffic on Custer will be spread out in three times as many lanes and therefore will present Westridge with more gaps to turn into. Until then, you might consider using Independence Parkway to travel to Virginia Parkway or Eldorado Parkway in order to access Custer Road at a traffic signal.
