The City has not yet final accepted the contractor’s work on the 42-inch water line on Rolater Road from Preston Road to Coit Road. The contractor is working on a final punch list of items to be completed. Currently the contractor is trying to get grass established.
Regarding the trees in the median of Rolater Road, the Parks Department planted trees in the median in early 2004. In late 2007, the contractor transplanted 96 selected trees of 5 to 6 inch caliper from the median of Rolater to the median of Coit Road before construction of the water line began. All the trees were successfully replanted.
A contract for design of lighting improvements on Rolater Road is underway. Once design is complete, the project will be let for bids and then constructed. Only after the street lights are installed would new trees would be planted in the median of Rolater Road.
The Parks Department has a median improvement program which includes tree planting, but this has been temporarily suspended due to budget cuts. Rolater Road is on the priority list for the median improvement program so that when the median improvement program resumes, Rolater Road should then have new trees planted in the median.
