What is the city building code for in-wall cabling (residential), such as speaker or Cat5 cabling? Does it have to be plenum grade?

Low voltage and/or communication cables in residential applications are not required to be plenum rated. When passing through a stud cavity or chase used as a return air plenum, the cables would need to be sleeved with metallic conduit.
