Are communities allowed to install speedbumps to slow traffic cutting through the neighborhood to avoid traffic on the main streets? We live in Country Club Ridge near Eldorado and Teel. People from several other neighborhoods use our interior street San Andres as well as others to race down to the farthest East community exit in order to jump the line that occurs in the mornings when travelling eastbound on Eldorado towards Teel. They also enter this community entrance in the evenings to avoid the backups that occur heading westbound. The problem is not just the cutting through the neighborhood but the speed at which this is done. Any advice on what we can do? The police have put up the MPH trailer on a couple occassions but that does nothing.

Mandy, speed bumps are not allowed on public streets due to the effect on emergency vehicles. We are aware of the cut through traffic within your neighborhood based on other telephone calls and emails. The Traffic Division is currently studying this issue to determine if there is a solution that is acceptable to all of the neighborhood and does not affect emergency vehicles and other public safety. Kim Dalton one of the engineers in the department will be contacting you directly to discuss this further with you.
