Can someone please clarify what is being done about the traffic problem at the El Dorado/DNT intersection?

During morning rush hour the backup of cars starting around 6:45 can extend almost to the middle school, which is over a mile. There are about 15-20 cars that go south for every car that goes any other direction. The problem compounds when a semi is at the intersection trying to make a turn.

This problem also occurs in the evenings with traffic backing up northbound on the DNT. On average it backs up over a mile but at times can run almost to Main St.

I have read that a traffic study was performed that did not warrant a traffic light being installed. How can this be?

Ben,

A traffic signal has been warranted for this location. The design is complete and the project has been bid. We expect the construction to be complete by August.

Thanks

Can we please get an update on the "complete by August" timeframe for the stoplight at Eldorado and Dallas Parkway? Additionally, it is becoming extremely dangerous trying to turn onto Eldorado from the subdivisions between the Dallas Parkway and 423. Any plans on adding a stop light at Teel to help rectify this situation?

Reddog,

Our latest word with the signal contractor working on Dallas Parkway and Eldorado is that the signal could begin flashing operations by the end of this week provided everything goes according to plan. The signal would then be put into full operations by the middle of next week. Based on the contract, the signal contractor has until August 23 to have the signal operating.

At Teel and Eldorado, we are working with TxDOT on having a signal authorized for this location. Our most recent study at that location shows that a signal is warranted. Based on that study, we had a traffic signal design contract approved by Council on July 6 that allows us to begin designing the signal. We are currently working to get funding for the construction of the signal once the design is complete.

Kat,

A signal warrant study for this location has been completed and sent to TxDOT. TxDOT is currently reviewing the study. Once their review is complete, they will then make a decision on whether or not to authorize a signal for Teel and Eldorado. I fully expect them to authorize the signal. We are currently discussing funding options and possible construction dates.

As an interim measure until a signal is installed, we have asked them to consider installing an all-way stop. I don't expect to have an answer regarding this possibility for another 6 weeks or so.

Thanks

Any update from TX DOT regarding the stop light reveiw for El Dorado & Teel?

Or any word from them regarding the all-way stop at the same intersection?

Signed,
Hopeful

Christopher,

A traffic signal has been authorized by TxDOT for this intersection. The all-way stop was not approved at this time. Once the signal at FM 423 and Eldorado is functioning, we will study the location again to see how the signal impacts traffic flow along Eldorado. An upstream traffic signal tends to create larger gaps in traffic that can be used by side street traffic.

We are working on the design of the signal at this time. I expect to have the design complete by the end of December. Then it will be up to TxDOT to construct. When meeting with TxDOT last week, they were not able to give us a definitive timeline for construction. At this time, I would expect to have the signal in place by spring/summer of 2005.

Thanks

Has the timing been changed on this light recently? For evening rush hour traffic headed north or turning west on to El Dorado the back up used to only be several cars long. Now the backup typically extends past the contruction entrance to the high school. That is worse than it was before the light was installed.

Any news on this topic since the location was observed? The back-up seems to be getting worse. Maybe there are just that many more vehicles using the DNT north to avoid the Main street construction.

Ryan,

I am waiting for some date information from TxDOT for the construction and completion. Plans were completed and approved by TxDOT before the holidays. The plans have been sent to the their construction office and their on-call signal contractor.

Thanks

Ryan,

I spoke with TxDOT earlier today. Their on-call signal contractor will be receiving a notice to begin work on the signals tomorrow. Once that notice is issued, the contrator must begin work within 7 days. The contractor will have 30 days to complete the work. Based on that, I would expect the signal to be completed and operational in early March.

Thanks

We met with TxDOT and the signal contractor at the intersection yesterday to locate where all of the new poles and other equipment should be installed. They should begin working within the next 7 to 10 days depending on the weather. This location is one of among five intersections that TxDOT is constructing under this contract. Initially this location was to be done first; however, the signal for the FM 423 and FM 720 intersection was moved ahead of Teel and FM 2934 intersection. That is the reason for the delay from my original post.

I expect the signal to be complete by early April or before.

Thanks

The latest information I've found here for the status on the signal light between El Dorado and Teel dates back to August, 2004. I think I've asked this before and I was shown some posted answers indicating that such light would be operational by March, 2005 or so, but I see no indications of any signal light being built there. Could you please provide us with an update? Thanks!

Maristella,

The traffic signal at Teel and Eldorado is under construction. The wooden poles are in place, portions of the spanwire are done, and the electrical service is complete. The contractor picked up some equipment from our shop yesterday and they will be installing the controller cabinet and video cameras shortly.

Based on the contractor’s progress to date, I expect that the signal will be complete by early April or before.

Thanks
