Hi,

I was wondering if the PD has ever thought about putting a class together for young children to teach them about keeping safe. I work with my children but as mom I wonder how much they listen. Is this something the PD would consider doing? or the Citizens Police Academy as a community outreach.

Thank you for your inquiry. We have been looking into developing a brief summer program that is along the lines of what you are asking about. Although only conceptual at this time, one of our school resource officers is conducting research into other programs to see what we can/should consider including. As it stands right now, we believe we can create a program that provides children with information on bicycle safety, stranger danger, how to handle calls and unexpected door knock if home alone, and the like. Again, this still very conceptual but we do have some models that we feel we could adjust to meet our needs in Frisco. I expect we will have a better feeling on what we will be able to do sometime after the spring break.

The Fire Department is currently working on what is known as a “Safety Town.” I am attaching a link which provides a brief overview of the concept (scroll down to about the middle of the page). The Fire Department can offer more information on this outstanding project.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any further questions.
