What is the status of the construction on Main St between the railroad tracks and the DNT? It seems like there has not been any work done for a couple of weeks now.

Staff is currently working with SBC (Southwestern Bell Telephone) on relocating an underground line, which is in conflict with the storm sewer going under the Toll Road. We are waiting on a time line from SBC for this work. If you would like to discuss this further please call me at 972-335-5580 ext 156

Why would a construction project like this be started without the appropriate scheduling in place prior to the start? Was the location of the underground line unknown prior to starting the project?

The engineering plans for Main Street Phase-3 did not indicated the specific location of the SBC lines in question. The plans provided data on some of the existing service lines within the area of the project. In several areas of the older parts of town, detailed records of utility lines are non-existant. Engineering plans and as-built conditions documenting the specific location of the utility lines were not kept or not provided at the time of installation.

As an effort to coordinate with the franchise utilities around the City, a monthly meeting has been established to work through the issues with the various companies. Timing, location, design and prioritization of project is the focus of the meeting. Very often in these meetings, utility lines that have been discovered on existing construction sites were unknown to the franchise owner or were presumed to be abandoned lines that still provide service.

If you have additional questions or would like to speak with me on other subjets please call (972) 335-5555 x129
