According to the fence code, an 8ft fence must stop behnd the "house line".

Is the house line defined by your home only...or does the next door neighbors build line factor in in any way?

The front building line for adjacent lots is usually the same distance from the property line. This is a minimum distance and a house may be further back, establishing the build line where an 8' fence must stop. There are some cases where encroachments are allowed on the front building line for porches or single story garages. In this case, the build line for the fence remains at the designated front building line. Contact Building Inspections at 972 335-5580 if you have any other questions.
