When is Shepherds Glen Park going to open? I thought that it was scheduled to open this summer. Now it is fenced off and all of the grass has been scraped off at the hottest time of the year. Please give us an update.

Ken,

Thanks for your note and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

In regard to your note, we are hopeful that the contractor who is currently trying to complete the establishment of grass at the Shepherds Glen park site will be completed within the next 1-2 months.

The primary reason for the area being fenced off is that this project has had quite a bit of vandalism with the temporary irrigation system that has been trying to establish that grass. Keeping everyone away from these areas and restricting access to this will hopefully be successful.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know. We too are anxious to see the park completed and hate that vandalism has played a part in delaying the completion of the park.

Thanks,

I've noticed that the grassy area in the center of the fenced off area is...well...grassy. Is there an opening date set for the park yet?

Thanks,
Sam

Sam,

Thanks for your note regarding Shepherds Glen neighborhood park. In regard to your question about an opening date, we do not yet have a final date in place. We are still working with the contractor to have all the grass growing and accepted.

I apologize for the inconvienence to the neighbors, it has been quite a struggle.

Thanks

It appears that most areas of the park have weeds growing on it and no attempt was made to plant grass on those areas after the prior weeds were scraped off. Are you waiting for the contractor to try to grow grass in those areas? I know they claimed that the sprinklers were vandalized, but it looks like the contractor has done a poor job of installing and maintaining the temporary sprinkler system that has been there for over six months.

Ken,

Thanks for your note and comments. The contractor has planted grass and is working to have it grow and accepted by the City. The grasses they are planting are some of the native seeds that require less water and maintenance once they are established, unfortunately they are a little more finicky to get started.

The drought and the damage to the irrigation has played some role in the length of time it has taken. I will also be honest in saying the contractor has had some internal problems that has caused the project to not go as smoothly as it could have. We are very disappointed in the project and are trying to put enough pressure on the contractor to get completed.

I apologize for the frustration the neighbors must feel. Please feel free to get with me if you would like to discuss this further.

Thanks for the information. Another question, when the spray park is operational, will it use fresh water or recycle the water?

Ken,

Thanks for your note about the spray ground that is located at Shepherds Glen park.

In answer to your question about this system, this particular system is not a recycled system.

At the time this element was approved as a part of the park, there had been some challenges with some of the recycled systems in use by other communities. For that reason, it was decided not to acquire a recycled system.

I will say, however, that newer systems have improved to the point that we are examining whether or not to convert our current system to a recycled one. I anticipate that we will continue to review this over the next several months.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Rick Wieland
