I understood that Exide is scheduled to leave Frisco sometime in December 2012. Today is November 6 and when I drive by each morning at 6:30 a.m. Exide appears to be conducting business as usual. The trucks are lined up along Parkwood and into Exide's driveway and the smoke stack is going full blast. Can you give me an update on this situation? Thanks,

Efforts to close the Exide Frisco plant continue as scheduled. In September, the company informed the Texas Workforce Commission it intends to lay off 120 employees by November 30th -- its last day of operations.
Under the agreement with the City of Frisco, Exide must cease business operations by December 31st of this year.
In June, the City of Frisco – along with our Economic and Community Development Corporations – agreed to buy 180 acres of undeveloped land surrounding the Frisco Exide plant for $45 million dollars. More than a third of the newly purchased property fronts the Dallas North Tollway – and is ‘prime’ site for commercial development.
Exide is charged with cleaning up the site. In the coming months, you’ll see the removal of vertical improvements – or stacks – on the property. Crews will dispose of lead and construction debris – in accordance with state and federal regulations.
As required, lead levels on the property purchased by Frisco’s EDC and CDC will be reduced to 250 parts-per-million.
Once the plant closes, the City of Frisco and its corporations will secure possession of the property within 2 years. Frisco plans to build a new firefighter training facility on the site…and will provide a valuable ‘link’ to the future Grand Park project.
