I was wondering if the city of Frisco is considerating the DART as a transport solution to the community, the nearest station is in Parker Road and still is far from Frisco.

Do you have any plans of becoming part of the DART?

This is a City Council decision about the city becoming a member of DART. The DART member cities apply one-cent of their sales to DART. The City of Frisco currently splits that one-cent sales tax for the Economic Development Corporation to assist in attracting/retaining business and for the Community Development Corporation to acquire land for City projects such as parks.

The City Council did pass a resolution on studying commuter rail on the BNSF line here in Frisco for passenger service. This line ties into the transfer station being built in Carrollton. DART, the Denton County Transit Authority will be connecting to this hub.

Any update on that BNSF line, on joining DART, on offering any public transportation for frisco residents?

Joining DART at this time would require the City to reallocate the one-cent sales tax that is split between 4A (Frisco Economic Development Corporation) and 4B (Frisco Community Development Corporation). The 4A is used to fund the Frisco Economic Development Corporation to attract businesses to the City that create jobs for the local economy and the other is used to fund the Community Development Corporation that has been very successful in acquiring land for a major parks, including Grand Park.

The City Leadership has worked with other cities to create another mechanism to fund public transit. However, the two recent attempts at the State legislature has been unsuccessful. We will try again in 2011 to seek legislature support for a bill for public transportation. Having your support would be appreciated.

The City, along with other cities along the this rail line, is having talks with BNSF officials about commuter rail. The conversations to this point has been positive. I do not have any time table for rail service as several hurdles need to be cleared, the biggest hurdle being the financial instrument to make rail possible.
