When is the expansion of Main Road expected to complete. With the schools already re-opened, the traffic is stalled in all the intersections Coit, Independence and Custer leaving residents stranded in the morning time. Please let us know.

Main Street from Preston Rd. to Custer Rd. is being constructed by the Texas Department of Transportation. Construction is approximately 50% complete and is expected to be complete in Q3 (July-Sept) 2015.

Our Traffic Engineering Department is monitoring the intersections and will adjust the signal timing as necessary to improve mobility during construction.

I totally get that these projects require some inconvenience on drivers but when you say they are monitoring these intersections, what time are they looking? during the day? When its not a big problem. However, in the mornings, its a HUGE problem, especially on Independence where the new high school is. Some mornings, our subdivision can't even turn onto Independence. Take a look at the Main St/Independence intersection, the traffic coming South on Independence to Main would flow alot better if they allowed the right turners to turn through the closed lanes versus all traffic being routed to one lane at the intersection. Please take a look at this, it could help calm a few frustrated drivers in the mornings and evenings.

Our Traffic Department monitors the traffic at all times of day, particularly in the morning and evening rush hour periods. Unfortunately, construction of the intersection of Main and Independence, or any intersection, requires closing lanes in every direction. These closures result in additional delays for everyone. The Traffic Engineers try to minimize the delays, but there is only so much they can do when there are half the number of lanes available and the same number of cars using the intersection.

We appreciate your concern and ask for your continued patience until construction of the project is complete.

Is it possible that constuction of the intersection could be worked on first so that would eliminate the primary issue. Thank you for adjusting the light timings. It was very bad a few weeks ago but seems to be somewhat better now. The issue is there are not many cars going E/W on Main but the South on Independence is backed up in the mornings and especially on Saturdays. I see 3 cars at the light going E/W but 40 cars going South on Independence.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to build the intersections first. Whenever a road has to continue to carry traffic while it is being completely reconstructed, each intersection has to be built in quadrants (and the work has to be coordinated along the entire length of the road). When half of Main Street is being reconstructed, that means that all of the intersections must carry traffic on the north side at the same time, which means you can only work on the south half of each intersection. But the north-south streets have to carry traffic as well, so their traffic is squeezed onto one half of the north-south road which leaves you only one quadrant of the intersection that doesn’t have traffic on it so you can work on it. When each intersection has one quadrant finished, the north-south traffic can be switched to the other side so the other quadrant can be finished. Then the entire south side of Main Street had to be finished before all of Main Street traffic could be shifted to the south side, which frees up the north half of each intersection to be reconstructed. But again, they have to be built one quadrant at a time because north-south traffic has to be squeezed onto one side of the road or the other.
