Noticed that the lake South of the church on Teel has been removed and construction is going on in its place. What is all that construction for the church? Thought it was a protected lake.

Teel Detention Pond is under construction south of Eternity Life Church. The pond has been in an interim condition for the past few years and is now being finalized. The contractor had to dewater the original pond to finish construction.

Are there any plans to develop the Pond between Elevate Life Church and Village Lakes ? Will this Pond have a walking trail or any park of sorts around it anytime soon ?

The pond is being constructed primarily as a drainage detention basin. The intention of the detention basin is to mitigate potential downstream flood risks by holding the stormwater back. The current construction project will provide grass and aeration fountains and anticipated to be complete in April.

The center portion of the open area will retain water. This will be approximately 20% of the total area. The normal pool elevation is the elevation the water will be when it has not rained. Once the entire area is developed, the water could potentially rise to within a couple of feet from the top of the detention pond.

At this time, there will not be a walking trail around the pond. There will be a portion of sidewalk along Village Lakes Phase 3 and anticipated the city will put sidewalk around the developed sides.

To date, there is neither a fountain or grass. When the grass does get put in, who will be responsible for mowing? Homeowner's association or City?

The private development project is under construction and additional earthwork is required on the site. The aerators are installed but the power still needs to be extended through Village Lakes Phase 3. The detention pond has been seeded along the banks and additional seeding will occur once the earthwork is finalized. Once the City takes ownership of the site, it will be the City’s responsibility to maintain.

There has been a lot of activity on the site in recent weeks. Can we get an update on what is planned here? Thanks!

J H,

Thanks for your note regarding the site that lies adjacent and to the south of Elevate Life Church along Teel Parkway.

The construction is a part of a park development project that will tranform the pond and adjacent property to what will be a neighborhood park for the surrounding community.

Construction and improvements to the pond and surrounding area including the establishment of turf there and a walking trail is expected to continue for the next 3-4 months and ready for use after the new year.

I hope that this helps to address your questions. You are also more than welcome to contact our office regarding the status of this in the future and we can give you the latest update.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks again for your question,

Rick Wieland
Director of Parks and Recreation
