Hello,

Very excited to see the park coming up at the corner of Lebanon and Teel on Timber Ridge. Many residents of the Lone Star Ranch are showing interest in Badminton.

Is there a way to request an indoor badminton court in the new park? It would benefit many residents like me as we have to drive to Richardson to play badminton. A badminton facility in Frisco would be great...

Please let me know
Thanks

Srikanth,

Thanks for your note and interest in the B.F. Phillips Community Park and the possibility of providing indoor badminton courts at the park.

Regarding B.F. Phillips Community Park, I really don't anticipate that there will be an indoor recreational facility at that park site that would accomodate badminton.

While I don't envision a seperate facility for this type of programming, I will certainly keep that in mind and provide your input to the Parks and Recreation Board for their information.

Thanks again for your note and please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions.

Rick,
What is the possibility of converting current indoor basketball court facilities of Frisco parks to dual use like other cities (Irving, Carrolton, Addison, and Richardson). This will be a minimal cost to the city and will significantly increase the traffic to our indoor parks. I personally know 20-30 Frisco residents who pay $25/month to play badminton & table tennis in Mustang Park (Irving) and another 30-40 who pays $60/semester to use UNT recreation facilities for the same reason. Would you please let us know when the next park and recreation meeting of City of Frisco will be held so that we can bring this topic for discussion?
Thanks for your help.

Mr. Mobashirin:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Badminton & Table Tennis at the Frisco Athletic Center. At this point, we do not have plans to convert or modify the two gymnasiums at the facility. Our two courts are heavily used by our members playing basketball as well as the use by the programs and athletic leagues that take place in the gymnasiums.

However, we continually evaluate the demand and usage at the facility. We will look at all possibilities when the opportunity presents itself to expand our offerings at the facility.

As far as the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board, they typically meet on the second Thursday of each month inside the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and each provides a time for citizen appearance.

I hope that this has helped to address your questions. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

I used to play badminton at Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center (TMRC) in Plano before I moved to Frisco. Unfortunately I can't find any recreation center in Frisco that has badminton courts.

TMRC has additional lines for badminton in their basketball courts (multi purpose, less cost). Badminton schedule is twice a week. It's always packed there. More and more people play badminton (indoor badminton, not backyard badminton).

Other cities like Richardson, Irving, Dallas, Plano have at least 1 recreation center that has badminton courts (3-4 courts will good). My wife and I would like to have a chance to play badminton in Frisco, so we don't have to drive far to get fit.

I know that badminton is not as popular as basketball, volleyball but this olympic sport is gaining popularity.

At the end, any consideration of accomodating this sport will be highly appreciated.

Rudy,

Thanks for your note and interest in badminton. Given that we currently have only one indoor recreation facility, our ability to offer badminton as a regular activity is limited.

Needless to say, our membership at the Frisco Athletic Center has indicated that the ability to play basketball and possibly volleyball are the prime activities that they would like to see currently.

If that desire changes or increases from its current levels, I believe that we would look seriously at providing additional time for new activities.

If you have any additional questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Hi,

I know this is a very old post, but i just wanted to check if there were any recent developments on this subject.
It would really benefit frisco residents like me who travel to other places like Plano and Irving to play badminton.

Jojo,

Thanks for your note regarding badminton.

Since the date of the last posting on this subject, we have continued to survey and guage the activities at the Frisco Athletic Center for the membership there.

As mentioned before, because we have only one indoor recreation facility, our ability to offer badminton as a regular activity is limited.

Currently, our membership at the Frisco Athletic Center has indicated that the ability to play basketball and possibly volleyball are the prime activities that they would like to see.

If that desire changes or other opportunities increase from their current levels, we will look seriously at providing additional time for new activities.

If you have any additional questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Hello Rick,

I know this post is too old. But would like to see if there is any progress on this matter. We are almost 6 people drive to UTD Dallas to play badminton. It will be nice if we could found in Frisco itself.

Gopi,

Thanks for your note. At this time, we do not have any additions to the BF Phillips Community Park on the drawing board.

The timing for future expansion of the park will be dependent upon when additional sports fields are needed as well as when 4th Army Memorial Drive will be constructed.

As the plans for the improvements are being developed, we will consider badminton as a possible element.

Thanks again,
