I live in Lone Star Ranch and we are very excited about the new Bledsoe Elementary that will be opening in August. My concern, though, is how the neighborhood children are going to get to and from school safely. There is currently not a sidewalk area on Timber Ridge Drive for them to walk on to get all the way to school. Will the city put something in this summer? Also, will a crossing guard be in place along Teel Road? Will anything be done to make the area near Stewart Creek Rd (the temporary Teel Road) and Timber Ridge safer?

Thanks so much!

Your excitement is shared by many of your neighbors as are your concerns. Allow me to reassure you that the City of Frisco and FISD are working towards the goal of being prepared for the first day of school on August 15. FISD and the City of Frisco officials have met several times in preparation for the upcoming school year at each of the new schools. The school sites have been visited on foot and by bus. Potential conflicts have been identified and we are making a concerted effort to have a smooth opening. In July, the new schools will be signed and striped in preparation for the first day. The City of Frisco postpones installation of new signs and markings until the summer prior to school starting. This delay allows construction crews to complete the construction of the new schools.

The proposed changes for Bledsoe involve several pieces. Two crossing guards will be provided to allow students a supervised crossing. One guard will be located immediately in front of the elementary school on Timber Ridge and the second guard will be located at Teel Parkway and Timber Ridge. A second guard will be provided at Timber Ridge and Teel Parkway when Teel Parkway is completed. Reduced speed school zones will be established on Timber Ridge and Stewarts Creek Road immediately adjacent to the school and on Teel Parkway at the crossing guard location. New crosswalks will be installed at several locations along the pathway to the school and additional signage will be installed. These signs include advance warning signs, parking restriction, and school zone signs.

The City of Frisco also works with developers and builders adjacent to new schools. To date, all builders have been very receptive in providing the necessary infrastructure to provide a safe walking route. First Texas Homes owns the vacant lots on the south side of Timber Ridge near Bledsoe Elementary. The City of Frisco has contacted their office and requested that several sidewalks be constructed. We are anticipating their full cooperation and should have the sidewalks installed prior to the beginning of school.

If you have any other questions, please contact our office.

What plans will be made to the temporary Teel road and Timber Ridge intersection? Currently, in the morning hours, there is significant traffic at that location. When will the new Teel Parkway be constructed and open?

A new reduced speed school zone will be installed on Stewarts Creek Rd (temporary Teel Rd) and will run the length of FISD propery. Due to the vast majority of the traffic turning left at this intersection, we are not anticpating a pedestrain/vehicle conflict; however, we will be watching this intersection for potential vehicle/vehicle conflicts.

The remaining piece of Legacy Road from south of Main Street to north of Lebanon is anticapted to be open to traffic next month. This new roadway will provide an alternative north/south route for non-school traffic to use. Traffic on Stewarts Creek Road will decrease as vehicles relocate to the new roadway.

The City's contractor, Mario Sinacola, has the new Teel Parkway under construction and anticipates being complete in December 2005. Once this roadway opens, Stewarts Creek Road will be removed.
