This past year seemed like there were many more fire ants around than before. My dog got tangled in a mess along with my foot. They are not fun. We have been dealing with the ones in our yards but I noticed city property there are huge mounds growing daily. The center median on main street by Frisco Trails must have millions waiting to cross the street into my yard. Does the city treat these infested areas?

Thanks for your inquiry regarding the fire ants. Due to the above average rainfall amounts this past summer and fall, increased fire ant infestations above ground have been prevalent throughout most of North Texas. We currently treat our developed park properties and athletic fields on a regular basis (which was quite a challenge the past six months due to the higher than usual infestations). However, we do not treat medians or right of way areas due to the acreage involved and costs that would be associated with treating these areas.

If you would like to discuss further, please contact me.
