I have seen many cameras go up on polls at Frisco intersections. What are they for? Who monitors them?

The cameras are used to detect vehicles. They take the place of the detector loops that are often embedded in the pavement. This detection provides input to the traffic signal controller that controls the duration of the green, yellow, and red signal indications.

Who controls the signals (TxDOT or City of Frisco) will determine who monitors the cameras. For the most part, TxDOT currently controls the traffic signals along state highways in Frisco.

The following web addresses will provide you with more information on the video detection system. The cameras are not used for red light running enforcement purposes.
