I am on the Board of our HOA & have these questions:

Can a tent-like/awning/sail structure be placed over a rear-alley driveway?

Does this structure have to have a city permit?

Does it have to be erected within the building lines?

Does the city have a different definition of a structure that is permenant from one that is temporary?

If a homeowner was having a party, wedding,or other event, the tent or canopy would be allowed without a permit. If the structure is to be used as a garage, storage ect., it would have to meet the requirements of The Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance as to set backs, materials, etc. and a permit would be required. The Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance does have a definition for Temporary Building as it pertains to Churches and Schools. If you have further questions, I can be reached at 972-335-5580 ext. 152.
