I notice that a lot of the parking area at the new ballpark is done in asphalt, but I thought the city requires concrete. Was there a variance of some sort given to allow this?

The parking at the ballpark was not done as an expectation, but was done via a separate agreement with Southwest Sports Group. The reason that the asphalt was allowed was because this is a location that will be developed as a offices via the masterplan of the site. The planed development is expected to occur within the next five years. The asphalt was allowed due to this abbreviated time period, thus being short-term in nature. After five years, if the office building is not built, then the asphalt would need to be replaced by concrete.
