I understood several months ago that a traffic signal would be placed at Teel and 720 once Teel had been widened. At that time, construction on the Teel widening was to commence in January 2002. Nothing's happened and the four-way stop gets very congested during rush hour. Any new timeline on this?

Any timeline whatsoever on the Tom Thumb that's to go in at Teel and 720? The sign's been up since February. I know it's not a record-breaking delay (such as Spring Creek BBQ), but I was just wondering. We could really use a grocery store in that area.

A traffic signal is currently being designed for this location. This signal will be constructed once the remaining leg of the intersection is complete.

I will have a follow-up response on the timing of Teel and the Tom Thumb later this week.

Here is the latest information that I have concerning the Tom Thumb.

The Tom Thumb is anticipating construction will begin by the end of this year. The remaining portion of Teel at this intersection will be constructed by the Tom Thumb development.

Thanks

Thanks for the update, Brian. By the way, have any development plans been submitted for the shopping center across Teel from the Tom Thumb, NW corner of Teel and 720?

Brian,
Have any plans been submitted for the shopping center on the NW corner of Teel and 720?

Yes. Construction plans have been submitted for review. The plans indicate a First National Bank, a Walgreens, a Gateway Bank, and a retail building.

We do not have a timeline on when they would expect to open.

Thanks

I am curious if there is an update on the start date of the TOM THUMB at Teel/720. I understand from several sources there has been another delay and that perhaps will not be built at all due to the financial trouble at the parent company. Is there any truth to these rumors? I know the light construction and right hand turn lane are on hold until the Tom Thumb construction begins.

Thanks!

I have requested that the real estate company for this property, Henry S. Miller, contact me regarding the status of this project. I will post an update once they provide me with this information.

The Tom Thumb store development at 720 & Teel, Teel Crossing I, is proceeding as planned but now probably won't start construction until 2004 and open early in 2005. Unfortunately, the delay is due to the fact that Ton Thumb needs more "housetops" within the immediate area because of increased competition and the need for better bottom-line results for new store openings because of new pressures from wall street, etc. We are pushing them to open as soon as possible, residents can help by calling the real estate director for Tom Thumb directly and urging him to move forward as quickly as possible, call: Mr. David Hardin 713-268-3897
The new development on the northwest corner, Teel Crossing II, should start within the next 30 days and will include a Walgreens and 2 new banks: Gateway and 1st National along with a small strip shopping center.

Thank you for the update, although it is not good news. My next question is directed to Brian Moen: how does this affect the intersection construction with regards to the right hand turn lane to go north on Teel and/or a traffic light?

Thanks!

What is being built on the south side of Stonebrook next to Stonebrook Estates. It looks like they are building a wall for now but they have a large area blocked off for the development. Thank you

So, the signal construction won't start until the rest of Teel is complete, and Teel won't be complete until the Tom Thumb is being built?

Is there a contingency since the Tom Thumb has been pushed back almost a year? This intersection needs some relief!

Holly,

We are continuing with the plans to have a signal in operation this summer. If the roadway is not ready when the signal is ready to bid, we will have a contingency plan in place that will allow the signal to operate with the existing conditions in the area.

Thanks
