i have noticed that after they 4 laned independence someone on here said that it was zoned for 6 lanes. i was curious on why they didnt just do all 6 when they already were under construction?

there are going to be hundreds and hundreds of new homes PLUS a new high school opening on Independence in the next year and traffic is already backed up. It would seem to make sense to go ahead and knock out all 6 lanes to prevent that mess from happening.

Any word on when this will happen?

Expansion to 6 lanes will likely be project that is considered with a future bond initiative. It is not currently programmed with available bond money. As a general guideline, we begin considering expansion to 6 lanes when traffic volumes exceed 30,000 vehicles per day. The last count along Independence was done in October 2012. At that time the volumes were approximately 20,000 vehicles per day near SH 121 and approximately 15,000 vehicles per day at Eldorado. We continue to watch Independence closely given the rapid development activity in the area.
