Is it possible to have a sign showing the correct traffic flow for each of the lanes going Eastbound on Main at the DNT? The two lanes are supposed to be right turn only, but there are constantly people using the second lane from the right as a straight lane. This creates backups in that lane, and I've seen several near road rage issues in the last few days, including one man actually getting out of his car and banging on the window of the car not turning right properly.

There is currently a sign posted and pavement markings on the ground that show that both far right lanes are for right-turn traffic only. There is also a sign about 500 feet west of the intersection where it is two lanes wide that tells motorists that the right most lane of those two lanes must turn right.

We have noticed the same behavior you are seeing and worked with our Police department to have some directed patrols in that area to ticket motorists who do not obey the signs. I will send in a request for a directed patrol in this area.

We conducted counts at the intersection over the summer to see if it could be changed to a single right-turn lane. Our analysis of these counts showed that both right-turn lanes are needed in morning, but only one right-turn lane is needed for the remainder of the day.

The reconstruction of a traffic signal at this location has just started. That work will be completed later this fall. Once the new signal is complete, we are planning to install overhead dynamic lane assignment signs that will make the approach have two right-turn lanes during the morning rush hour and then change the lane assignment of the approach to have only one right-turn lane for the remainder of the day. These LED signs will be directly over the lane that will change during the day and will be very visible.

This continues to be a problem almost every time I go through this intersection. Have you considered blocking the right lane under the DNT overpass with road buttons to help prevent this behavior? The right lane doesn't seem to be necessary, since only one lane from South bound Dallas Parkway is a turn lane.

There is an additional southbound left-turn lane that is being built with the u-turn lane that is under construction right now. The u-turn and left-turn lane should be open within the next 6 weeks.

The signal work noted in the post above is nearly complete. We are in the process of acquiring the dynamic lane assignment signs noted above. They should be in place within the next 6 to 8 weeks if not sooner.

Given these improvements, we do not plan to make any striping changes under the bridge.
