Are 4 wheelers and other ATV's allowed in the undeveloped area on the north side of Frisco Commons Park? Since a portion of the fence has come down, there have been some in that part of the park several times.

Thanks for your message and question regarding whether or not all-terrain vehicles are allowed in our parks and specifically Frisco Commons Park.

First of all, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Just for your information and for others as well, we do not allow non-authorized vehicles in any of our park sites.

The only exceptions to this would be for department equipment and vehicles, police and fire department equipment and those vehicles and equipment utilized for development, maintenace or repair specifically granted permission by our department. ATV's operated by individuals for purposes other than those described would not be allowed and would be in violation of our city ordinance.

I will ask our maintenance division to examine the fence line for breaks and potential entry points. I appreciate you getting with us in this matter.

Does this apply to a kid-size ATV? This afternoon while at the park, there was a little boy (about 7 or 8 years old) riding a child-size motorized ATV on the sidewalk around the playground area at the park.

Thanks for the note regarding your question on whether a kid-sized ATV is allowed at a park.

Based on the information you have provided, I would probably classify the kid sized ATV you described more as a toy than a vehicle. I have seen some of these types that are battery powered and slow moving.

Having said that, if this "toy" were more motorized and not slow moving such as I have described above, this would need to be looked at more closely by our department.

If you have additional questions about this, I would suggest that you contact our department and we can discuss this further. Please feel free to contact me or our staff at any time at 972-292-6500.

Thanks again for your question and interest.
