Grand Valley Drive is a dead end and culdesac for turning around, however, there is a huge barrier that is at the end of the road. It is unsightly and ruins the look of our street. There is a sign posted, "not a thru street". Can the barrier be removed and something more attractive installed in it's place, like "DEAD END"? Please advise!

The red and white barrier at the end of a street indicates that the street has a temporary end for now and that the street will be extended with future development. It is a safety feature that alerts traffic that the street is coming to an abrupt end even though the street seems like it should continue (especially at night). It also benefits those living on the street by preventing unauthorized vehicular access from the surrounding fields onto the street (and therefore prevents farm and/or construction traffic from using the neighborhood street along with the mud it would track through the neighborhood).

This type of barricade is a standard that we apply consistently across the City and it exists in many neighborhoods. There is no alternative that we allow to be installed in its place.

As soon as the street is extended northward, the barricade will be removed. In the meantime, if the barricade is ever damaged or in disrepair, please let us know so that we can repair it.
