I was driving to work this morning on Hillcrest and witnessed a Dallas Police Officer in a marked SUV swerving from lane to lane and then driving straight down the middle of the road taking up both lanes. When I drove up beside him at the stop light I saw that he was doing something on the dash mounted laptop while he was trying to drive. I've seen the laptops in Frisco PD vehicles before and was just wondering if there are any rules about using them while driving if there is only one officer in the car. With all the concerns about text messaging while driving, typing on a laptop while driving seems even worse.

Distracted driving is a very serious concern, be it motorists texting, talking on the phone, or even a police officer reviewing call notes on a laptop while responding to a call.

The Frisco Police Department has numerous policies in place to ensure that our officers drive in a safe and minimally distracted manner as possible. This includes prohibiting talking on a cell phone or texting while driving, typing on a computer, etc. If you feel that an officer is driving in an unsafe manner please feel free to call our non-emergency number at 972.292.6010 to report an officer's driving behavior. Thank you for your question.
