The fee (tax) for the Alarm Program has gone from $25 last year to $35 this year. Why a 40% increase? What exactly does Friso provide for this fee?

False alarms are a huge problem in Frisco and cities like it. The fee is a user fee in that only those who have alarms pay the fee. After much discussion, the function of alarms permitting and false alarm billing was outsourced to a company that specializes in the industry. Many of our neighboring cities have found it to be a cost-effective manner of managaing the alarm processes. To hire the people to replicate what the company does would have cost more than the company costs us. The alarm site can be found here.

But don't the alarms reduce crime?
Otherwise, there would be more burglaries?
What cost are there other than gas used to drive
to place where alarm goes off?

No, false alarms do not reduce crime, but they do create work for officers and dispatchers. The equivalent amount of time for at least 2-3 officers per year are spent on false alarm calls. The annual renewal is to ensure we have the latest contact numbers on file.
