Is there currently a moratorium on apartments?

I recently read this "Apartment development is a hot market as Frisco has approximately 2,500 units in the pipeline."

What does the master plan state regarding total number of apartments, what is the current number and is this 2,500 figure accurate.

Thanks.

Brian,

There is currently no moratorium in place for new multifamily projects. The Comprehensive Plan talks about multifamily projects in a number of different sections but it does encourage getting away from the "garden style" apartments, which are free standing units, and encouraging vertical mixed use developments where apartments are located above office and retail business.

The estimate of the number of apartments is 4,500 units. As to the 2,500 units that is difficult to answer without having read the article to see the projects that they are referencing. At this time there are approximately 1,265 units under construction and another 1,155 units that have approved site plans but have not gone to construction. The two numbers together are approximately 2,400. We do not know if all of these will be built or not.

Regarding the amount of apartments, and apartment residents in Frisco, does the official Frisco Gov website keep the census/population/demographic statistics updated and public?

Some of this criteria was a factor in us originally choosing to move to Frisco, and the info was readily available at that time. It seems to me that it has changed.

Thanks

Brian,

Staff updates the City's overall population estimate on a monthly basis. The other information, including apartment resident information, that is provided is through links to the US Census Bureau. The Bureau does periodic estimate updates as does the North Central Texas Council of Governments for which there is also a link. We do not do estimates other than that of the monthly population.
