Stop sign camera devices are similar to the stop light cameras that Frisco has at some stop light intersections except that a machine will make calculations to determine whether a vehicle did not stop for a long enough period of time before continuing through the intersection.

Stop sign cameras are not under consideration at this time. We can do directed patrols at intersections, but this is a problem in many areas of the community.

Chief I am sure it is an issue all over the city that is why I asked about Stop Sign cameras. I appreciate the job Frisco PD is doing but I'm just not sure there are enough Officers to do directed patrols often enough to be beneficial. Is there anything that citizens in the areas of these troublesome intersections can do to help?

We do not have the statutory authority for stop sign cameras. An excerpt from the law states:

Sec. 542.406 Texas Transportation Code

(a) In this section, "photographic traffic signal enforcement system" means a system that:
(1) consists of a camera system and vehicle sensor installed to exclusively work in conjunction with an electrically operated traffic-control signal;"

Driving in a safe, defensive manner is the best thing a citizen can do to avoid collisions. Reporting troublesome intersections can be effective as well, but officers must divide their time between traffic enforcement and our other duties.
