It is that time of year again. I am curious as to how many calls Frisco receives due to Fryer Fires or injuries from Fryers during the holiday season. Might be a good time to send a reminder of the dangers involved in using these deep fryers.

Thank you for your question and you are certainly correct that deep frying a turkey can result in injuries or fires. Both the National Fire Protection Association and the Underwriter’s Laboratory recommend against using oil based systems to deep fry a turkey due to the dangers associated with the process. We would certainly hope you have a pleasant day with friends and family, rather than share your Thanksgiving day with the Fire Department.
On average, the Department sees less than 1 call per year related to frying turkeys, however cooking fires in general represent the highest number of fire types each year. Below are some links to information related to turkey fryer safety tips.
