Why is the annual Frisco Green Home, Health and Safety Fair being held outdoors this year? It will be hot, muggy and uncomfortable.

Thank you for your question and concern. The decision to move the Green Home, Health & Safety Fair this year from a public school to Frisco Commons Park was made in response to feedback received from both citizens and city officials alike. Although portions of the fair have always been outdoors, from 1995 (when the first fair was held) up until 2002 the entire event was actually held outside at a public park and was very well attended.

In an effort to address both the safety and comfort concerns of our citizens and exhibitors, the fair will run strictly from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and usually starts to wind down by noon. This time frame, combined with the recent cooler summer temperatures, should make for a more enjoyable and well attended event. The majority of the exhibits will be held under the cover of the parkís main pavilion (which tends to enjoy a nice breeze) and in other shaded areas. In addition, all of the exhibits are within very close proximity to each another and the parking lot itself, making for a short walk on the part of fair attendees (unlike in recent years past). Free water will be provided to all and paramedics will be on hand should anyone more heat sensitive have any problems (which to date has not been an issue at any of the fairs).

This year we are actually adding a new indoor National Night Out kick-off event with the 1st Annual NNO Frisco Police vs. Frisco Fire Charity Basketball Game (to benefit the Frisco Chapter of Special Olympics). This game (which will replace the old PD vs. FD softball game) will be held at 7:00 PM on August 4th at Frisco High School and will feature a silent auction, local sports mascots and half time entertainment.

Is there a web site that will give us the dates and schedule for this event? Sounds like something I might want to take the family to.
