What was the cause of the fire, about 1-2 months ago on Biscayne I believe? When I saw it, the FD appeared to be letting it continue to burn somewhat. Is there any public information available?

The fire was caused by a range top appliance. The appliance was left in the on position when the occupants were not home. Material stored to closely to this cooking surface ignited and quickly exposed the entire kitchen to flame. When the engine arrived at the scene the fire had already rapidly spread throughout the structure. The property to the south was being quickly exposed to radiant heat. The first arriving engine made a quick interior search for occupants. Due to the time of day and the absence of habitants the fire was allowed to burn for much longer without recognition and fire department response. Once a quick assessment for survivors was conducted a decision to establish an exterior attack and exposure control was made. These elevated large volume water streams take a few more seconds to establish but the rapid extinguishment and exposure control is worth the time. The home adjacent to the fire was limited to shingle damage from exposure. With the large volume of fire and wind conditions that evening the likelihood of multiple exposures is always a factor.
