My kids and I just went to scope out the playground at Falcon's Field Park next to our Northridge subdivision. I know the rendering of what the park is supposed to look like includes sun shade sails over the playground. I didn't see any sign of where they might go and wanted to confirm if the sun shade sails are still in the plan. Can you please confirm?

I am sorry to say that there are not enough funds budgeted to construct the shade canopy. We had intended on having one but the drastic increases in the cost of construction of the past 12 months left us short of funds. The hurricanes have caused construction cost to increase 10%-30% depending on the trade.
If you have any additional questions regarding this, please feel free to let me or our staff know. I am sorry that I don't have better news about the shade cover for the playground.

Dudley, thank you for the reply. This is extremely dissapointing to hear. What $ amount would it take to compensate for the increase in the cost of construction? There are a lot of homes in Grayhawk, Christie Ranch and Northridge. I would think that it could be worth seeing if the HOAs could find a way to chip in to accommodate the implementation of the intended design which includes the sun shade sails.

The cost would be around $60,000- $80,000. I am not sure exactly as the shade structure was bid with the overall park construction at that time the bid was $70,000. The City will need to bid this portion of construction separately because it will more than likely be constructed after the park is completed. I understand the community’s disappointment in not having the shade, however we only have one park that has a shade system similar to the one that was proposed. This is not a standard feature we have in our parks.
