Hello,

Will the Dallas North Tollway be opened in stages, or will the entire Gaylord - 380 be opened at once?

The current plans are to open the entire length of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) extension to US 380 at one time by September 2007. We will evaluate opportunities for staged openings, but no decisions have been made. Southbound staged openings may be feasible, but any staged opening in the northbound direction short of Eldorado may actually increase congestion. Gaylord is a two-lane exit currently (interim condition); none of the other ramps have the capacity to be open as two lanes.

It appears that work on the service roads north of El Dorado is progressing well. Will the west service road be opening soon between El Dorado and 380?

While most of the paving is complete for the west service road, several key items remain to be completed before traffic can be switched, including inlet construction, paving of the intersection at US 380, signal construction at US 380 and at Eldorado Parkway, and guardrail installation. The current schedule is to open the west service road (southbound Dallas Parkway) in the February to March 2007 timeframe.

Are we still set for the service road opening up this month or next?

We are working with our contractors to set a revised open to traffic date for the southbound service road. Completion of inter-agency reviews and agreements have contributed to delays in completing the work. Paving and signals remain to be installed at US 380 and Eldorado. Currently we anticipate the service road to open in May 2007.

Mark,
The NTTA always has done a great job managing the construction schedule. However, why was the bridge at Warren and Lebabon both kept closed for so long instead of at least one being a priority.

The bridges at Warren and Lebanon are being constructed by different contractors and the schedules are not tied together. Originally, the Warren, Lebanon and Stonebrook bridges were all going to be built simultaneously. The cross streets were to be narrowed and each bridge built half at a time. Working with the City of Frisco, an alternate plan was instituted whereby first Stonebrook was closed for full bridge construction and then Lebanon was closed for construction. This was thought to provide the least disruption to Frisco residents and to Frisco High School. Since Warren traffic is much lower and Gaylord provides a nearby alternate route, Warren and Lebanon were not tied together.

Warren Parkway is scheduled to reopen by early May. At this time, items remaining are paving of u-turns, installation of permanent traffic signals and completion of median islands and striping. The u-turns on Warren will open a few weeks later after the bridge railings and u-turn guardrails are completed.

The bridge end supports are complete at Lebanon. The center support columns are currently being constructed and beams should be installed in April. The bridge is scheduled to be back open to traffic by July.

Thanks.

We are nearing the end of May 07 and I was wondering if any new updates on ALL progress on unopened areas of the tollway could be released? If so could you please add as much detail as possible. PLEASE get those of us driving through town excited as the comute has been long and painful for all for a long LONG time!

"Warren Parkway is scheduled to reopen by early May."

Works have been working on Warren 8 of the last 45 days. A few days it rained. Is there an updated schedule and reason for the lack of progress?

Two weeks ago our contractors stated that the new southbound frontage road from US 380 to Main Street would be open by July 2nd. Unfortunately, it has rained most days since then, but we are still going to do everything possible to open the roadway by that date. The contractor chose to hold off starting the intersection work until all the signal equipment was available and other coordination was in place since TxDOT stipulated that the construction on US 380 can not exceed 60 days.

Warren Parkway is in its final stages of work. The subcontractor that will slip the rail on the bridge has mobilized on site this week. We anticipate the remainder of the bridge will open in June.

The first bridge deck pour for Lebanon is scheduled for either June 1 or June 4, pending weather. Bridge work will continue through June and we still anticipate the bridge to be opened in July.

The DNT main lanes are still scheduled to open in September 2007 from SH 121 all the way to the new terminus south of US 380.

While signs are going up between Gaylord and future John Hickman and it looks like this section is almost complete, it will not be feasible to open this short segment early. The next toll plaza ramps north are still under construction and will not be substantially complete until the end of August. Additionally opening this short segment could cause greater congestion, especially in the northbound direction, since it is only a single lane ramp without the capacity the two lane ramp exit at Gaylord provides.

Thanks

Any update on the opening of the new southbound service road lanes? Also, is the Sept. opening of the mainlanes going to be affected by all this rain????

The rains have severely hampered our contractor's ability to complete the southbound service road connection to US 380. In order to construct a proper roadbed for the intersection, it has to be dug out about 3-1/2' - this is below the ditch line, so every time it rains, the contractor loses several days waiting for the ground to dry up. The lastest estimate we have is to complete and open this section by the end of July, provided the weather cooperates.

The NTTA is still committed to opening the main lanes in September. It will probably be late in the month.

Mark Bouma mentioned in a post on May 31 above that the bridge at Lebanon would be opening in July. Seeing as we only have about a week, is that work going to be finished on time?

I noticed that at HGWY 380 and the DNT the barriers have been removed, the intersection is paved, and the poles for the traffic signals have been installed. Is there an opening date for the new service road????

The new Southbound Dallas Parkway service road from US 380 to Eldorado is scheduled to open on Sunday, August 5th. Crews will begin work at 8am on Sunday and the new lanes are expected to open early Sunday afternoon. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area as they adjust to the new traffic patterns. Motorists are also advised to take note of significant changes to the traffic signal operations at US 380/Dallas Parkway and Eldorado/Dallas Parkway.

The Dallas North Tollway extension is scheduled to open from SH 121 to US 380 at the end of September 2007. The current plan is to open on Friday afternoon, September 28.

The Lebanon bridge over the Tollway will be opened to traffic before school starts on August 27th.

Is there any reason why there is not a right turn lane on east bound Eldorado to turn Southbound on Dallas Parkway or a left turn lane coming the other way? There is plenty of room there for them. You still get backed up in traffic if 1 car doesn't turn right at the light.
thanks

NTTA opened the southbound frontage road from SH380 to Main Street last Sunday. The City of Frisco assisted with adjustments to the traffic signals on Dallas Parkway at US380 and Eldorado Parkway.

A sub-contractor on the project is scheduled to stripe the new pavement on Eldorado at the interchange this Thursday which will include additional lanes Eldorado Parkway and the frontage roads.

Projects like this have to be staged to accommodate traffic movements during the construction. Therefore, it was necessary to open the SB frontage road and leave single lane approaches on Eldorado Parkway to accommodate the striping work this week.
