I'm curious about the status of construction on Rolater between Independence and Coit. There was a sign at the would-be entrance to westbound Rolater from Independence last winter which said the road would be opening in February of 2006. It's July now and I can't see that anything has been done.

Ms. Frisbie,

Thank you for the question regarding Rolater Road. As you stated, the section of Rolater Road from Coit Road to Independence Parkway was scheduled to re-open early this year. Since then, several developments have changed this original schedule. Foremost among these is the critical need to extend a 42 inch water line under this stretch of road. The construction of this water line is currently underway, and will be reaching that section of Rolater in the upcoming months. Since the placement of this line will necessitate the excavation of the entire current roadway, the decision was made not to reopen the road until the water line was in place.

We are currently under contract with an engineering firm to design the new Rolater Road from Coit Road to Independence Parkway. The engineering is scheduled to be complete in January of 2007. Once the engineering is completed, the construction of the first four lanes of concrete pavement will commence. The construction is planned to take until lat 2007. Once this construction is complete, the road will be opened.

If you have any further question, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
Luke Jalbert
