Do you have any additional info on when Walmart will start building at the location on FM423. Also, will Sams be building there also?

Lola,

The Planning & Zoning Commission will consider the final site plan and plat for the Wal-Mart site this Tuesday, September 27. With this approval Wal-Mart will be able to submit their construction plans for the building. Staff does not know at what stage those architectural plans are as far as being completed. I would expect that the plans will be submitted sometime in the next month or so. Construction should start this fall/winter.

The developer has indicated that there are no plans for a Sams Club at this site as of now.

Jeffery,

Wal-Mart has submitted their building plans for staff review. Once staff review has completed and plans are modified, a building permit will be issued. Once the permit is issued construction may begin.

I do want to point out that the developer does not file a work schedule with the City as to when everything will be completed. Weather, materials, labor availability, etc. will change any schedule that is proposed. For this reason we do not track project schedules.

Is there an effort to ensure Wal-Mart follows its new area-specific design like being done at Prestonwood and in Lake Highlands?

Kyle,

The City has worked with Wal-Mart and the Grayhawk neighborhood to design a building fašade that is far from the typical Wal-Mart store design. The building will utilize a number of outward extensions of the fašade to get away from the plain flat front. The building will have a watercourse of stone four feet in height with brick above the stone. Numerous windows have been added to also break up the building fašade. There will also be trees and shrubs platted across the front to soften the brick and stone building fašade. If you are interested in reviewing the final design, it is on file in the Planning Department and can be viewed by stopping by and asking to see the Wal-Mart site plan. I hope this answer your question. Thank you.

Is there any way we can view final design over the web.

Thanks

Shafi,

We do not have the final facade plan in digital form. We do have color drawings available for review at our office and you are welcome to come down and ask to see them.

Bobette,

The building plans for the new building have gone through the first review and comments have been returned to the architect for revisions. Once those revisions have been completed, the building permit can be released to allow construction to begin. At that point it is up to the builder as to when they will break ground on the building. We expect to be able to release the permit sometime in the next few weeks.

Nit,

No further information to provide at this time. Wal-Mart is still in the plan review and approval phase of the project. There is no time frame as to when the building permit will be issued.

About this new wal-mart...is it going to be a green one or a blue one (colorwise)? Like the green on Park and the Tollway? Or blue like the regular wal-marts?

And is there still no digital form of it available?

Mallivan,

The Wal-Mart at FM 423 & Eldorado Parkway will have a masonry exterior with brick and stone. It will not be painted as other Wal-Marts are. We do not have a digital copy of the facade plan. You are welcome to come to the Planning offices at 6859 Main Street to view the colored drawing.

I heard some rumors that WalMart had decided not to build at 423 & Eldorado. Is there any truth to this?

Toni,

Wal-Mart is continuing to move forward on the development of this site for a new store. It is common for a project of this size to take some time to prepare the appropriate plans for the building and for site improvements following site plan approvals.
