Does a school crossing guard have the authority to stop oncoming traffic from going through an intersection so that the side street traffic can disregard their stop sign and pull onto the main street and go about there way. NO kids anywhere to be seen. Acting like she is a patrol officer directing traffic??

The Texas Transportation Code (TTC) defines the authority of crossing guards (below). If you believe that a crossing guard is acting outside of their authority, please contact our non-emergency number at 972.292.6010 and ask that a police officer respond to ensure that all laws are being appropriately followed. Thank you.

(2) a school crossing guard who:

(A) is performing crossing guard duties in a school crosswalk to stop and yield to a pedestrian; or

(B) has been trained under Section 600.004 and is directing traffic in a school crossing zone.
