I'm planning to install a fireplace surround and mantel. Several internet sites say to "check local building codes for the requirements in my area". Does Frisco have a required distance from the fire box to the surround and mantel?

Combustible trim and mantels may be placed directly on a masonry fireplace front surrounding a fireplace opening providing the combustible materials are not placed within six inches of the fireplace opening. Combustible trim within twelve inches fo the opening may not project more than 1/8" for each one inch distance from the opening. (International Residential Code R1001.11.4)
This would also apply to factory built fireplaces unless the manufacturer's recommendations provide other criteria. Please feel free to call 972 292-5330 if this needs clarification.
