Does anyone know why the city cut down about a dozen trees on the (north) median at Legacy and Stonebriar Drive? I tried calling the Parks dept (their trucks were there when they were cutting the trees), but so far have not received a response. Just curious, as they weren't dead, there are no power lines and a turn lane already exists...

Representatives from the Stonebriar HOA contacted the Parks Department earlier this year about replacing the Bradford pear trees on the two medians across from the Stonebriar entrance. These trees were planted when Stonebriar was originally developed. We agreed to partner with them by providing the labor to remove the existing pear trees. The HOA is paying for the replacement trees which will be eight 6 inch caliper live oaks. They also plan to pay for some additional landscape improvements on both median noses.
Their reasons for wanting to replace the Bradford pears was due to their age (they are short lived trees compared to oaks) and deteriorating condition. They are also aware that since the pear trees are not in the middle of the medians, they would have to be removed anyway when additional lanes are added to Legacy. They basically wanted to get a head start on new trees by planting the live oaks now.
