What's the latest on Northwest Community Park? On the undeveloped parks page I see the following info but haven't seen anything else. Now that Panther Creek is done, will this park be underway soon? Thanks.

Park Type: Community Park
Nearest Major Intersection: Panther Creek Parkway & Teel Parkway
Acres: 164.04
Update: The park site was acquired in 1998.

Thanks for your note. Due to the amount of growth that we have experienced in both the Northeast and Northwest quadrant of the city, we are watching very close to determine which community park will be master planned next.

Currently Northwest is scheduled to be master planned in 2010. Staff and the Parks and Recreation Board along with the Frisco Community Development Corporation will continue to monitor this and could alter that schedule between now and that time.

If you should have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.

Any update on Northwest Community Park? We are new residents and look forward to a new park. Is there anything we can do to officially convey our interest in the park being developed?

Dear Big Mac,

Thanks for your note regarding the Northwest Community Park. As you might know, we currently have five (5) community park sites that lie in the city. Of those six, only Warren Sports Complex is fully developed. Two of the five, namely Harold Bacchus and B.F. Phillips Community Parks have both had two phases of development that have taken place over the past 3-4 years. Both Bacchus and Phillips still have additional development that will ultimately take place prior to their full development.

The final two community parks, the Northwest Community Park and the Northeast Community Park are both currently undeveloped, with no identified funding for master planning nor development defined at this point in time. As the overall community continues to grow, community parks will be developed as a result. Over the next couple of years, I do anticipate that master planning of one of the community parks will take place. Factors that will influence the master planning of the next undeveloped community park would include population growth in that sector of the city, infrastructure access for roads and utilities and funding availability.

Feel free to contact us directly if you would like an update in the future for this or other park sites in our system.

Thanks again for your note.

Thank you for the detailed response. As of this week there seems to be some construction starting just north of Lone Star High School near the water tower where the NW Community Park was slated. Has the project been green lighted or is work going on at the high school?

Many thanks for your time.

Big Mac,

The work you referenced north of Lone Star High School is a Parks & Recreation Department project. It is a five acre dedicated practice area for our youth athletic associationsí teams. The sod and irrigation installation was done in house by Parks Division personnel. This is a miscellaneous park project approved by the Parks & Recreation Board.

If you have additional questions feel free to contact me directly.
