Are homeowners required to get a permit from the city to have their roof replaced? We had hail damage, and are getting ready to do so.

Yes. Building Permits are required for re-roofing and can be obtained either by the homeowner or your contractor. Contractors must also be registered with the City. Permit applications may be obtained online at nspections/2007Residential.pdf
or by visiting Planning and Development Services at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd., third floor.

Before we get quotes for roofs or anything else from a contractor where a permit it required is there a way to go on-liine and find out if the contractor is all ready registered with the city?

You can search for contractors currently registered witih the City at this link;
Select the link for Permit Information Online and you will be able to search for contractors by name.

Please be aware that these are not recommendations on which contractor for you to choose. Contractors that are not currently registered may simultaneously apply for registration and permits.
Please contact Building Inspections at 972 292-5301 if you have questions.
