I'm glad there is a light at 423 and Panther Creek so busses and parents can safely take students to the elementary school. What would be the possibility of having the lights flash yellow for the north/southbound lanes and flash red for the east/westbound lanes outside of the school pick up and drop off times? For instance, from 7:15-8:15 and 2:30-3:30, the lights could operate as they do now. All other times, the lights could operate as stated above. I have seen something similar in Plano on Legacy just west of the DNT. The intersection at 423 and Panther Creek seemed to run much smoother before the light was installed. I don't know if it's my poor timing or bad luck, but I always seem to have to stop at that intersection no matter which direction I am going. Thank you.

“We considered the possibility of flashing amber on the major street during off peak times. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) allows a traffic signal to operate in a stop-and-go mode during the heavier traffic periods and switch to flashing operation during lighter traffic periods. However, crash data studies indicate a greater risk to drivers during flashing operation. This is especially true late at night when the number of DWI / DUI drivers is greatest. Therefore, we sided with “safety first” and made a conscious decision not to flash any of the signals in Frisco during light traffic periods.

Why has the light at Legacy and Eldorado been flashing the past few mornings? It has really caused a big backup for westbound commuters.

There was an equipment failure. The equipment was replaced on October 11.
