There is yet another accident this morning at Lebanon and Rushmore. What will it take to get a red light put in?

About a month ago, the City decided to begin the design process to install a traffic signal on Lebanon at Rushmore (entrance to Heritage Green).

The City monitors over 55 intersections for the need to install a traffic signal, which has included both the Rushmore Dr and Village Blvd intersections on Lebanon Road for several years. The decision to install a traffic signal is based on nationally standardized traffic signal warrants that traffic engineers have to follow. These signal warrants are primarily based on traffic volumes, but also include the evaluation of conflicting movements, pedestrian volumes and crash data from the past couple of years. On September 12th, my supervisor and I observed both of these intersections during the morning commuter peak period. Based on our field observations and the signal warrant analysis, we decided that it was time to start the design process to construct a new traffic signal on Lebanon at Rushmore.

The design process for a new traffic signal typically takes about 3 to 4 months. The construction timeframe for a typical traffic signal is about 3 months. Therefore, the plan is to have a new traffic signal in operation on Lebanon at Rushmore sometime next summer.
